I may no longer be shooting out of the Carlisle studio (I’m now in Mechanicsburg), but I still have lots of women to blog about who did their session at the studio, like Monica. How long have you been wanting to do a boudoir session?
I first saw Shannon’s photos at their brewery nine months ago and found her website. I kept coming back to her pictures until my husband convinced me to do it.
What made you decide Shannon Hemauer was the photographer to work with to do your photo shoot?
I loved her website, the different stories of all the women from all different shapes and sizes. Shannon made me comfortable and feel supported.
How would you rate your photo shoot experience on a scale 1-10?
10!!

How did the reality of your session compare to your expectations going into it?
I was more excited than nervous! But I felt so pampered the day of the session. From laying out all my outfits, telling me how great everything looked… when Shannon showed me the first image on the camera I was hooked and couldn’t believe it was me!!
What was your favorite part out of the entire experience? The planning, the session, the image reveal?
All of it!! I loved trying to find different outfits and Shannon was always quick to send another idea or website to try. The image reveal where my hubby got to see the images was very exciting.
Did you leave your photo shoot worried about your hair/makeup (Maybe you thought the makeup was too dark or your hair didn’t look like you.)?
When I first looked in the mirror after my hair and makeup was done I had a tiny thought it didn’t look like me but Shannon had been spot on for everything else. And then after she showed me the first picture on the camera I had no more worries!

Did you leave your boudoir experience worried that the posing felt awkward?
The poses felt awkward, but Shannon explained the “why” behind everything and it made sense.
What were you more nervous about—the session or the image reveal? Why?
That’s a tough one since I was more excited than nervous, but I would say the image reveal because I really wanted my husband to like them.
Did you arrive to the image reveal worried if you’d like your images? Why?

What did you think when you saw that first image of yourself?
I couldn’t believe it was me!! I was pretty/sexy and it was me!!
How did shooting this boudoir session change your outlook on yourself? Are you more confident? How has the experience affected your morale?
Makes me realize people aren’t really seeing all my flaws like I think they are. My self esteem has improved and I’m excited to show people the pictures. I feel more confident and sexy!
Would you consider yourself a women who is very critical of herself in photographs? If yes, why are these portraits different from photographs in the past?
I have always been critical of my weight in photos, but Shannon knows how to help you pick flattering outfits, the importance of posing, lighting, and highlighting your best features. But the amazing part is it’s still me in the portraits!

Before this experience, did you feel you were photogenic? If no, do you feel you are photogenic now?
I can’t wait to try the different posing we talked about in my own photos.
Before this experience, what concerns did you have in regards to hiring a photographer?
That they would be critical, judgemental, or wonder why I wanted to do this.
Were you surprised at how much fun you had planning your session, shooting your session, and seeing your images?
I was! I didn’t realize I would enjoy the entire process as much as I did. I love people doing my hair and makeup so I knew I would like that part. But picking out lingerie was fun, I never knew there were so many different kinds.
Would you recommend a boudoir photo shoot with Shannon Hemauer Photography to your friends? Why or why not?
One thousand percent!! Shannon is organized, really connects with her clients, and wants them to do well and enjoy the process. She walks you through everything and doesn’t forget the details.
