Katie did a boudoir session so she could surprise her now-husband on their wedding day with a few “for his eyes only” portraits—I was told in a follow-up email that her hubby loved them! <3

You’ll notice the images in this post are of her in the included contemporary glamour dress rental, and that’s because, as I said above, most of her images are remaining private for her husband to enjoy.

How long have you been wanting to do a boudoir/contemporary glamour session and what made you decide now was the time to do one?
Once I started planning my wedding, I began thinking about gifts for my [now-husband] and that is how I decided that I wanted to do a boudoir session.
What made you decide Shannon Hemauer was the photographer to work with to do your boudoir/contemporary glamour session?
I did research on a few different photographers in the area. The reviews for Shannon were amazing and definitely convinced me that she was the one to go with. Everyone had written about how positive of an experience it was for them and how comfortable Shannon and her team made them feel, and that was huge for me.
What was your favorite part out of the entire experience? The planning, the session, the reveal?
The whole process was so much fun, but I can’t decide between the session and reveal. Once the nerves went away, it was so much fun.
Did you leave your session worried about your hair/makeup (Maybe you thought the makeup was too dark or your hair didn’t look like you.)?
I was not too worried about it. I have never gotten my makeup professionally done, and [team member] Ashley did a great job.
Did you leave your session worried that the posing felt awkward?
The posing did feel awkward, but I expected that and was not worried. Shannon does a great job of making you feel good throughout the whole process.
What were you more nervous about—the session or the reveal?
I was so nervous for the session. I think because it was so out of my character to do something like this and had no idea what to expect.
Did you arrive to the reveal worried if you’d like your images?
I am very self-critical which is why I was nervous. I knew from everything I’ve seen from Shannon that the images would be beautiful, I just had to go in it not being hard on myself.
What did you think when you saw that first image of yourself?
I had no words while watching the reveal video; I just couldn’t stop smiling.
If you had been worried about the hair/makeup/posing, did you like what you saw in your portraits?
All the poses looked amazing and my hair and makeup were perfect!
How did shooting this session with Shannon Hemauer change your outlook on yourself? Are you more confident?
I’ve never been very confident in myself, but the shoot definitely helped that. Whenever I’m having a down on myself day I look and the pictures and it instantly makes me feel better!
Before this experience, did you feel you were photogenic? If no, do you feel you are photogenic now?
I did not think I was photogenic. I always felt very awkward taking pictures and it would definitely show. Now, I think a big part of being photogenic is being comfortable and Shannon definitely did that.
Before this experience, what concerns did you have in regards to hiring a photographer?
Before meeting Shannon, I was just nervous that I would be uncomfortable and awkward during a boudoir session and it would result in bad pictures.
Were you surprised at how much fun you had planning your session, shooting your session, and seeing your images?
I wasn’t necessarily surprised, but I had so much fun during the session. And the reveal was just so incredible. I just can’t say enough good things about how great the whole experience was.
Why should other women do a boudoir/contemporary glamour session with Shannon Hemauer Photography?
Shannon and her team do an amazing job at making you feel confident and comfortable and then she takes amazing pictures on top of that. It is just one of the best experiences that is truly empowering.
