Today, instead of writing about a recent client’s session, I just wanted to tell you about my Yorkie, Franklin.

Franklin, December 2009

I had been in love with this breed for years, and in 2009, after my husband and I purchased our house, this little guy came home with us. He was three years old at that time and quickly became my shadow. He was our fur baby.

Franklin was a sweet boy who had his quarks—he’d bark at anyone who sneezed; would go nuts when the phone would ring; loved to eat paper (tissues, toilet paper, construction paper, etc), crayons, and Play-Doh; and licked anything—sweatshirts, the table, the couch, the floor. He would follow me all around the house, always underfoot, but I got really good at knowing where he was (and avoiding stepping on him) by listening for the clinking his dog tags made.

This morning I dropped Franklin off at the vet to have hip surgery—about half-an-hour after I dropped him off, the vet called to say his heart stopped as they were in the process of preparing him for surgery. They tried everything they could to save him, but without success. Overall, he was very healthy, so this was unexpected.

He would have turned 12 on November 26th.

He will be greatly missed, but I’m happy we have almost ten year’s worth of memories of him.

Thanks for letting me share.

Until next time,

Shannon

He was an adorable pup, and always a joy to be around. I am so sorry that he met his end this way, and I love this blog on him, a real tribute to his love.
