Megan is a ball of energy! Like, crazy energy (and I mean that in the sweetest of ways, Meghan!), but I was a smidge concerned that she was going to have a difficult time focusing during her session because of that energy, but she nailed it! During the planning process, she kept implying she was awkward with posing, but she couldn’t have been further off the mark—she followed my directions and made my job easy.

How long have you been wanting to do a boudoir/contemporary glamour session and what made you decide now was the time to do one?
This was a spur-of-the-moment idea for me to book a session. I stumbled across these images of woman in beautiful lingerie and fabulous dresses and was star struck at the beauty and power they held in the photographs. I thought, ‘Why haven’t you believed in yourself enough to try something like this?’ I am typically a very strong willed and independent woman in every aspect of my life, but just not with my body. So I decided to step outside my comfort zone and made a commitment to invest in my self-awareness and pride of who I am as a woman.

What made you decide Shannon Hemauer was the photographer to work with to do your boudoir/contemporary glamour session?
Shannon is a woman of grace and excellence. She provides structure, compassion, empathy, and communication that releases any form of tension within your body. Her experience shines through in her words and actions. When I first spoke on the phone with Shannon, there was an instant calmness that I felt and knew I was making the right decision. Her photographs speak for themselves and illustrate just how wonderful of a woman Shannon is.
What was your favorite part out of the entire experience? The planning, the session, the reveal?
For me the best part was a tie between the session and the reveal.

Did you leave your session worried about your hair/makeup (Maybe you thought the makeup was too dark or your hair didn’t look like you.)?
I felt extremely confident in my hair and makeup. It was definitely a thrilling experience.
Did you leave your session worried that the posing felt awkward?
Shannon is absolutely amazing in this field and provides you with [posing] instruction throughout the entire session. She knows what works for the camera. There are some poses that make you question, ‘How does this look sexy?’ But trust me it works and you will be so pleased that you did it when she reveals your photos to you.

What were you more nervous about—the session or the reveal?
I was more nervous about the session than the reveal. I’m not the type of woman who wears dresses or lingerie. I may be very outgoing and confident but not when it comes to my images.
Did you arrive to the reveal worried if you’d like your images? I felt amazing in my hair, makeup, and wardrobe choices. From the guidance and support I received the day of the session, I knew my photos would be nothing but fantastic!
What did you think when you saw that first image of yourself?
That first photo I was shown I was speechless and shocked. There was no way this woman in the photograph was me! My heart jumped for joy seeing myself in a form I never thought was possible. It was a priceless moment.
If you had been worried about the hair/makeup/posing, did you like what you saw in your portraits?
I absolutely loved what I saw in the portraits. I am hooked on doing more with Shannon for sure!

How did shooting this session with Shannon Hemauer change your outlook on yourself? Are you more confident?
I will say the experience made me feel more powerful and aware of the woman I can be.
Before this experience, did you feel you were photogenic? If no, do you feel you are photogenic now?
Before the session I loved taking photos of others—now I want to be in every single one!
Before this experience, what concerns did you have in regards to hiring a photographer?
I have never hired nor thought of ever hiring a photographer before. But let me tell you Shannon is the only photographer I need!
Were you surprised at how much fun you had planning your session, shooting your session, and seeing your images?
I am a mother and wife so typically I am providing my focus on others and not myself. This gave me the opportunity to say to myself, ‘This is for you, so put your time into it for yourself.’ This was not only a gift for my husband but more importantly for me. I needed to see that although I’m not getting any younger and the creases in my forward and around my eyes are becoming more visible, I am still the same woman I was years ago. I still got it!
